BMW’s M Division looks set to abandon it traditional naturally aspirated engines to improve efficiency and lower CO2 emissions.
We already know – thanks to a small cock-up with the X6 M microsite’s coding – that the new monster SUV will feature a twin-turbo 4.4-litre V8 with around 550bhp when it comes out later this year. The next generation M5 is going to use the same motor (it arrives 2010) – meaning it will be more powerful than the E60 V10 but also much more fuel and CO2 efficient. The smaller engine should be lighter, too.
